K101, 000 stolen from Church

THE Choma magistrate court has heard how a man withdrew K101 000 meant to support the less privileged from Choma Central Church of Nazarene.

In this matter, Godfrey Chikupa aged 21, of Shar compound is charged with theft contrary to section 272 of the penal code of the laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence are that   on   September 7, 2021 at Choma    District of Southern Province did steal K101, 000 property of church of Nazaret Choma.

Pastor of Nazaret Erick Simbangu told the court that he instructed the accused to go to the bank and check if the money was available after receiving notification of availability of funds from the donor.

Mr Simbangu narrated that he did not get any response from the accused but made efforts to find him and was only informed by mother to the accused two weeks later that he was at Shampande police station.

He further said K6000 was recovered in a plastic bag with a bank note indicating that K107,000 had been withdrawn.

The accused however could not ask constructive questions during cross examination and only hinted that he intended to take the money back and ask for some to use for his business.

Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala adjourned the Matter to   December 2, 2021 for continuation of trial as one witness was not before court and the arresting officer was unwell.

The accused person remains remanded in custody.
