Zambia’s debt solution is not outside, says Silavwe

THERE can be no debt repayment both externally and domestic without ‘added’ revenue from the mining sector, Zambia’s mining sector accounts for 72 percent of total export earnings, Golden Party Zambia president Jackson Silavwe has said. 

Mr Silavwe said Zambia’s current external debt stood at US$15.5 billion, domestic debt was at K291.7 billion, both treasury bills, government bonds and domestic areas.

He said since 2021, when Zambia first defaulted on its external debt payment, the country had never serviced its external debt obligation. 

The opposition leader said the new dawn administration must compel mining companies to pay a “bit more taxes.”CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.
