THE 2018-2021 Luanshya strategic plan should be embraced and given all the support it deserves by both the council and other stakeholders, Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda has said.
Mr Chanda said the strategic plan which comprises a number of major development initiatives was a blueprint for the town’s development and the local authority.
“The local authority has done everything possible including planning for a series on consultative meetings which had an input from government officials including the devolved government departments which have now become new members of our family as a municipal,” Mr Chanda said.
Mr Chanda was speaking at the weekend during the official opening of the Luanshya District strategic plan review workshop.
“I’m appealing to the council management and staff to ensure that you exhaust the consultative process between the council and other stakeholders which culminated in developing the strategic plan,” Mr. Chanda said.
He added: “The strategic plan has identified five key areas of focus, these are housing and social services, planning services, engineering services, finance and administration which all play a crucial role in ensuring that Luanshya realises its goal to attain sustainable social, cultural and economic development.
“As government we are happy to note that during the implementation of the strategic plan, Luanshya will see the economy being diversified from copper dependence to agriculture with more areas opened up for the establishment of industries in the agricultural sector and property developmental projects such as the construction of shopping malls”, said Mr Chanda.
