A MAN narrated before a Local Court in Lusaka that he wanted to divorce his wife because she doesn’t want to make love to him as she is always sick.

Howard Simumba, 25, of Matero compound was testifying in a case in which his wife, Theresa Phiri, 22, of George compound sued him for divorce.

The two got married in 2015 and have one child.

Phiri told Senior Court Magistrate Pauline Newa sitting with Magistrate Miyanda Banda at Matero Local Court that she never enjoyed her marriage because when she was seven months pregnant Simumba took her to her parents and did not come to get her and life became hard for her.

She explained that after the child was born she looked for a house and Simumba used to give her K5 and advised her to eat at her parents while he never spent a night with her.

Phiri said that on May 3, Simumba left her without checking on her but when he came at 23.00 hours some people she did not know came to collect household goods because of an outstanding debt of K2000 which she had no idea of.

Phiri further said that Simumba was detained at Police after the matter was reported there but after he was released he forgot her.

Simumba said that he wanted to divorce Phiri because she denied him sex as most of the time she claimed to be sick.

Magistrate Newa said that there was lack of communication because Simumba was supposed to tell Phiri which people he owed money.

She said that there was also lack of support and wondered why Simumba was telling Phiri to eat at her parents place.

She said that there were no conjugal rights saying it could be because of hunger, and wondered how Phiri could perform in bed on an empty stomach.

She granted the couple divorce ordering Simumba to compensate Phiri K1, 500 with initial payment of K500 followed by monthly instalments of K250 and to be paying child maintenance fee of K200 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
