TUTWA TICKS OFF NDC

CALLS by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the impeachment of President Edgar Lungu are baseless as well as misplaced and politicians should stop labelling everything development related as corruption if Zambia is to develop.

Patriotic Front Kabwe Central Member of Parliament Tutwa Ngulube said impeachment calls by the NDC were baseless.

Mr Tutwa said they could only be sustained if proved in a competent court of law or tribunal and that the opposition party did not have the required number of MPs.

He said President Lungu should be allowed to work without being distracted and that people with evidence of corruption allegations should take such information to the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Mr Ngulube,  a legal practitioner, laughed off demands by the NDC to impeach the Head of State and cautioned politicians against labelling everything development related to corruption if Zambia was to achieve its development agenda.

He said because of the immunity that the President enjoyed he could not be impeached until the powers vested in him had been removed.

“The impeachment calls are baseless and can only be sustained if they are proved in a competent court of law or tribunal. 

NDC spokesperson Eric Chanda appealed to Members of Parliament to write to the Speaker of the National Assembly to immediately convene a special sitting of Parliament to start the impeachment process of President Lungu.

The New Congress Party (NCP) says the impeachment campaign against the President by NDC has just exposed the levels of mediocrity and bitterness of the party.

Pastor Chanda, who is New Congress Party (NCP) president said “it’s unfortunate that this party which was formed out of rebellion and frustrations can stoop so low as to call for President Lungu’s impeachment. This just shows the levels of mediocrity and bitterness the party that was formed out of rebellion is.”
