LEAVE DPP ALONE, SAYS KABIMBA

By ADRIAN MWANZA

A PLOY to remove the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Lillian Siyuni,  is being concocted because she was appointed by the previous PF regime and machinations to oust her have been set in motion, Rainbow Party Secretary General,  Wynter Kabimba, has said.

Mr Kabimba said that there was need to stop politics with institutions of governance most especially the office of the DPP.

The MMD lodged a formal complaint against Ms Siyuni  over the manner she handled the case of MMD motor vehicles claiming there was serious misconduct. He said it was unfortunate that the DPP was being dragged in the mud by reporting her to the Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC) over how she handled the case of MMD motor vehicles in 2011.

Mr Kabimba said that it was evident that people were playing politics in trying to hound out the DPP because they knew she was appointed by the PF.

He said the people from the MMD that had reported Ms Siyuni to the JCC were in a working relationship with the UPND.

Mr Kabimba said they were trying to please the UPND due to the relationship they had.

“My advice is, if the MMD is aggrieved they should sue the Attorney General instead of trying to lower the office of the DPP and the reason is that they think it is a PF appointed person so they are just playing politics,” Mr Kabimba said.

He said people would start shunning these positions due to the treatment they are receiving from leaders  and incompetent   people.

Mr Kabimba urged the MMD to stop playing politics with the office of the DPP and   let it run autonomously.

He said that as politicians there was need to keep politics from institutions of governance and that the constitution made it clear that the office of the DPP was the only office that would not be under the directive of anybody or authority.

“That is the only office that is given such powers against directives from anybody and the reason that was done is because it has to function autonomously,” he said.

Mr Kabimba said the move by MMD national secretary Elizabeth Chitika to report Ms Siyuni to the JCC for alleged misconduct was misplaced and did not carry water.
