THE Police should quickly take action against the UPND cadres that poked and hailed insults at the National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister Godfridah Sumaili at Lusaka Magistrates court, says National Revolution Party (NRP) leader Cozmo Mumba.

Dr Mumba said the conduct of UPND cadres towards Rev Sumaili when she appeared for her contempt of court matter should not be tolerated.

He called on the police to work extra hard and arrest the culprits without any further delays. Dr Mumba said there was urgent need to firmly and decisively deal with the erring cadres if Zambia was to be a peaceful nation for all.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Dr Mumba condemned the attack by the UPND cadres on Rev. Sumaili by calling her names for exercising her constitutional rights to attend to her case before court of law.

He said it was such behavior, laced by political overtones, that was making Zambia appear to be unstable to the international community.

The NRP leader said the cadres should be caged immediately so that it sent a strong message to would-be offenders.

“The Police should quickly take action against the UPND cadres for harassing Rev Sumaili, they should be put behind bars so that that they learn a lesson,

“Women more especially our mothers should be protected from these thugs. Those cadres deserve to be in prison and these are the same fools who are painting Zambia to be a dictatorship to the international community when the law visits them for their wrong doing.

Dr Mumba said it was unfortunate that the drunk cadres were allowed to insult the minister who is a mother in the presence of their leaders

“The police should not wait to be instructed by anyone, but they should always take action against any cadres who are in the habit of attacking defenseless people for the nation to remain peaceful,” Dr Mumba said.
