DUBIOUS $100M DEAL QUERIED

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has demanded for an explaination over the cancellation of the dubious US$ 100 million contract to construct infectious disease Hospitals.

Leader of the opposition Brian Mundubile said the country needed answers most especially that the contract was publicly advertised.

He said they were shocked and surprised over Governments silence on the matter when they have been very loud on other cases involving other people.

Mr Mundubile said the opposition party is concerned that the President is shielding the corruption in his government.

He said recently Vice President Mutale Nalumango told Parliament that government had cancelled a $100 million contract involving the construction of health facilities in Southern, Western and northwestern provinces.

He said PF is aware that this was only done after a backlash from the general public who expressed concern.

And Shiwang’andu member Parliament Stephen Kampyongo who is opposition chief whip in Parliament, also questioned why the government held an AU side meeting at a night club at Eastpark mall when there are enough facilities at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

He said there are implications   bearing on such a decision as it has potential to create a wrong perception to the visitors who are attending the AU summit.

But Ms Nalumango said those  who suspect any corruption in the UPND government are free to report to the investigative wings.

She said the new dawn government will not have sacred cows adding that those who may know some corrupt practices going on and are silent are dirty themselves.

Ms Nalumango assured Zambians that the UPND government will not entertain anything that smells of  corruption and President Hichilema administration felt duty bound to cancel the contract because of cost implications.

She said it’s not true that President Hichilema is silent as he has been very loud in issues of corruption.
