Rufunsa jumps 2, 000 Covid-19 confirmed cases mark

RUFUNSA district has so far recorded 2,020 cumulative cases of positive Covid-19, cases Rufunsa District Health Director (DHD), Angel Mubanga has said.

Dr. Mubanga made the observation during the District Epidemic Preparedness, Prevention, Response, Control and Management meeting held in the Council Chamber on Saturday.

 He also disclosed that the district had so far recorded 48 Covid-19 positive cases during the fourth wave and  called for enhanced sensitization on the dangers of the pandemic and a need for people to adhere to the preventive measures which included being vaccinated against the pandemic.

He also disclosed that the district health team had targeted to vaccinate 10,189 people, but had only managed to vaccinate about 5,738 during the period under review.

He further revealed that the district currently had 16 active cases and had recorded a total of five deaths as of December 18 this year.

Meanwhile, the district health director further disclosed that malaria cases were still on the increase in the district and that the district had recorded 42, 350 confirmed  cases with eight deaths between January and October this year. 

He observed that Malaria was another threat in the district and  appealed for more partners to come on board and help in the control and prevention of Malaria.

And Rufunsa District Commissioner, Richard Mabena expressed concern at the alarming figures of Covid-19 cases in the district and echoed the government’s call for a multi-sectoral approach towards the fight against this pandemic.

 He called on all stakeholders to take an active role in partnering with the government in its quest to halt the spread of the pandemic.  

He stressed that the New Dawn Government was committed to the fight against Covid-19 and hence appealed for cooperation from all stakeholders.
