Management at Lubambe Copper Mines have been ordered to continue with production and deal with the issue of retrenchments which is currently going on.
Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe has cautioned that there was need for management to pull up their socks because the mine had the richest ore bodies in the world.
He said management needed to stop running the entity like a kantemba (small business) because the mine was still very viable.
Mr Kabuswe said that he was sending a stern warning to the firm for them to be more creative in order to find lasting solutions.
“I just want to urge the management to quickly address the issue of retrenchments which is currently going on and that management needs to fulfill its pledge to buy the former workers land which they could use,” he said.
He said that government would soon approach Lubambe so that they can see how best they can inject capital to revamp the firm.
And one of the former workers said that the mine had promised to buy the 1500 workers plots but only managed to get 500.
