Zesco United yesterday moved to second position on the MTN/FAZ Super League table after beating Real Nakonde by a loan goal in a rescheduled Week 8 fixture played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Idris Mbombo’s 29th minute goal was all Zesco needed to collect maximum points against a struggling Real Nakonde side.

The win is Zesco’s first in three league games, having recorded stalemates in the last two fixtures.

The win has also pushed last year’s league runners-up to second position on the log with 19 points, one point behind league leaders Lusaka Dynamos.

Meanwhile, Real Nakonde remains stuck on 19th position with seven points after suffering their fourth league loss in a row.

At Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe, Warriors recorded their first win of the season after thrashing Nchanga Rangers 3-0.

Lameck Kafwaya’s double and a lone goal from Jacob Phiri was all Chintu Kampamba’s boys needed to collect their first victory and move to 11 points.

At the Independence Stadium in Choma, Spencer Sautu’s 88th minute goal rescued the Zambia National Service-sponsored side Green Eagles from recording their sixth league loss.

Michael Bwalya gave Nkwazi the lead in the 13th minute of the game but Sautu equalized two minutes before the final whistle for the two teams to share the spoils.

In Lusaka, Red Arrows humbled Buildcon 2-0 in another rescheduled fixture played at Nkoloma Stadium.

Shadreck Malambo and Lottie Nyimbili scored a goal apiece for Honor Janza’s men to collect maximum points and move to sixth position with 18 points.

In today’s fixture, defending champions Zanaco will host second-placed Green Buffaloes in the battle of the giants to be played at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
