Malicious arrests will end badly – Tutwa

By KETRA KALUNGA

THE malicious arrests by the UPND administration will only end in them   compensating people for damages and this will drain the country’s resources, says lawyer, Tutwa Ngulube.

Mr. Ngulube said the unnecessary arrests and prosecutions people are being subjected to, especially those aligned to the Patriotic Front (PF), would only expose the government to damages and deplete the treasury.

He said in an interview, almost all the people who are being politically harassed through   unnecessary arrests and prosecutions would be acquitted and demand compensation thereby draining the country’s resources.

“Some of these malicious arrests at the end of the day will just expose the government to damages, they would deplete the consolidated funds, money which should be used to develop the country and not to compensate people for injury,” he said.

Mr. Ngulube, who is former Kabwe Central MP expressed fear that if the government took what he described as a problematic approach, it risks plunging the country into unnecessary debt. He urged the UPND leadership to focus on developing the country and not on unnecessary arrests of former government officials and PF members. He added that the UPND leadership should know that they can’t afford to have all the opposition members in court because it was not possible.
