NGWERERE ward councillor Adrian Banda says the construction of markets in most local communities would reduce congestion in the Central Business District (CBD) and encourage Lusaka residents to conduct businesses in areas where they live.

Speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday, Mr Banda said the CBD was full of different business people coming from all corners of Lusaka which has congested the city centre.

He said Lusaka was a clean town and should be maintained like that by removing some of the business people, especially street vendors.

“Creation of markets in all communities would help decongest the CBD and bring sanity to Lusaka as a capital city of Zambia,’’ he said.

He said urged members of the public to note that business could be done even in their vicinity and could help reduce on transport costs spent to and from the town centre.

He said constructing markets would also encourage more people to engage in business activities especially those who lost interest due to the congestion in the Central Business District of Lusaka.

Mr Banda also said it was a shame how the capital city of Zambia had been turned into an unrecognizable slum.

He said the Lusaka City Council had been trying to get rid of street vendors by building markets in different communities to help reduce congestion in the city centre.
