Hidden battered wife dies

A 49 year old wife of Mwense, who was allegedly  beaten and hidden in the house by the husband, has died.

The woman, identified as Esnart Mwenya, of  Mutima Village in chief Lukwesa of Mwense district  was allegedly murdered by her 49 years old husband, Rodwell Lumbwe of Chawelwa village, Chief Kanyembo of Nchelenge in Luapula province.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said according to the father of the deceased said his daughter was beaten by her husband on unknown dates and time, but in June, 2017 and she was kept in the house until she died yesterday.

Ms Katongo said the body is lying in St. Paul‘s Mission Hospital  mortuary awaiting postmortem while the suspect has been arrested and is detained in police custody.

In Muchinga Province, police have arrested a 65 year old man identified as Lavara Musanga Muma of Kalamata village, chief Chikwanda of Mpika district for allegedly defiling his 12 year old niece. The incident happened on Friday around 09: 00 at Kalamata village and the suspect is currently detained in police custody.

In Lusaka province, a male juvenile pedestrian of Garden compound aged 11 year died after he was hit by a motor vehicle registration number ABA 8331 which was being driven by George Tembo aged 23 also of Garden compound in Lusaka.

Ms Katongo said the incident happened on Friday around 16: 00 along Garden road, opposite Ngwerere School when the victim was crossing the road and he sustained body injuries and died on the way to Chipata clinic.

Meanwhile, an unidentified pedestrian aged 25 to 30 years old of unknown address in Kalulushi district on the Copperbelt died on the spot after he was hit by a motor vehicle Toyota Hilux registration number ALL 7997 which was being driven by Amos Kapungu aged 38 of Kalulushi.

The incident happened around 18:30 hours along Ndola–Kitwe dual carriage way  near Chamboli bus stop in Kitwe when station  the victim was crossing the road.

And in Southern Province a female juvenile pedestrian of Liveendo village in chief Singani, of Choma district aged 15 years died on the spot after she was hit by unknown motor vehicle which did not stop after the accident.

Ms Katongo said this occurred on Friday around 06:00 at Nachibanga area, 20 kilometers south of Pemba when the driver failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speed, and as a  result hit the pedestrian who was walking off the road heading in the same direction.The body is lying in Monze hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
