…accuses SG of plotting against him

By Oscar Malipenga and Prince Chibawah

EMBATTLED Patriotic Front (PF) member of the Central Committee Mwenya Musenge has accused party secretary general Davis Mwila of sponsoring members within the party to call for his expulsion.

And Mr. Musenge has challenged those accusing him of holding clandestine meetings with Chief Mukuni to produce documented evidence.

Mr. Musenge, who appeared for the disciplinary hearing this week at the Patriotic Front (PF) secretariat for allegedly issuing disparaging statement, told the Daily Nation that Mr. Mwila (SG) was behind the calls to have him either suspended or expelled.

He said if it was the will of the party that he should be expelled or suspended then “let it be” but vowed never to trade his integrity, uprightness for the sake of holding on to a political position.

“First and foremost, I want to mention very clearly that I am a Christian and there is a verse in the bible (Psalms 25:21) which talks about integrity and uprightness and that is what I believe in.”

“Secondly, our first republican president Dr. Kenneth Kaunda has through and through preached love and you will agree with me that most of the times the President has said love your neighbour as you love yourself, and this is a bible reading. So my visit to Chimbokaila was nothing more than showing love towards my neighbour,” Mr. Musenge said.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Nation, Mr. Musenge confirmed appearing before the disciplinary Committee.

“It all went well and what remains now is to present their findings and recommendations to the central committee who would make the final decision,” he said.

Mr. Musenge said he was summoned for allegedly bringing the name of the party into disrepute in connection with a statement he issued in the Mast saying “my heart is burning”.

He said his summon had nothing do with his visitation to Chimbokaila.

Meanwhile, Musenge has rubbished claims that he had been holding dark corner meetings with Chief Mukuni.

He has challenged those accusing him of holding dark corner meetings with Chief Mukuni to produce evidence to prove the allegation.

“It is totally fabrication. I have never travelled to Livingstone and it is not right for people to start fabricating stories. Let us face the facts and let us be objective in everything that we do. We only have one Zambia and no one will harmonise this country apart from ourselves coming together,” he said.

Mr. Musenge said as a Patriotic Front member of the central committee, his duties were to protect the interest and popularity of the party and protect the integrity and popularity of President Edgar Lungu.

“My duty is to work hard so that my party remains popular so that come next election we shall be able to win as a party.

“To everything there is a time, if indeed it is the wish and will of the party that I be suspended or expelled let it be but I shall not trade my conscience, integrity, uprightness for the sake of holding on to a position,” he said.

Mr. Musenge said he joined PF the party was to contribute in honest and all fairness in truthfulness to the wellbeing of the party and whenever there is something wrong it is my duty as a member of the party to bring it out.

AND PF founder member James Nyenjele has charged that both Mr Kambwili and Mr Musenge have lost respect for the late President Michael Sata because they are trying to destroy the PF, the party he worked so hard to build,

And Mr Nyenjele said Kambwili and Musenge’s departure from the PF would not shake the ruling party because they are just political shadows.
