State probes 1m expired doses of lead contamination drugs

By MILLENNIUM REPORTER
GOVERNMENT says investigations have been instituted in a case where at least one million doses of drugs for lead contamination treatment have expired in Kabwe.
This follows another batch that expired between October 2, 2019 and September 29, 2021 of 20, 236 doses costing US$1 million had expired resulting in wasteful expenditure.
Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe said the expiry might have been due to lack of communication among stakeholders which is unacceptable.
Mr. Mwanakampwe said the government is doing everything possible to ensure that the health of the citizens are safeguarded.
Meanwhile, Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) President Dr. Crispin Moyo said more effort is needed to enhance the supply chain of drugs to ensure that they do not go to waste.
However, Leadership Movement Party national coordinator Jairos Ngoma said it is disappointing that the drugs have continued to go to waste under the watch of government when it promised to provide better health care for Zambians.
