THE Government should appoint a commission to facilitate the integration of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the existing development plan, says Born Short Living Tall Zambia limited, executive director, Ntalasha Chisha.

Mr Chisha said the appointment of the commission would help the incorporation of the SDGs into a comprehensive national action plan.

He said assimilating the SDGs in the existing National plan and contextualising them to our current economic and social hardships would help us build a viable national vision.

“We appeal to President Edgar Lungu to appoint a commission to facilitate the integration of the SDGs into a comprehensive National action plan.

“The country needs to identify which SDGs will apply to the major hardships we are facing as a nation and align them with our national plan for development,” Mr Chisha said.

He explained that the commission could be chaired by Minister of National Planning who could also be tasked with forming inter-ministerial committees and task forces that bring together representatives from all Government departments to ensure inclusiveness.

Mr. Chisha said in order to have a consistent approach in the monitoring, Members of Parliament should also come up with a parliamentary advisory council on sustainable development to provide support and help evaluate the sustainability impact and performance of the Government once the said SDGs have been fully integrated into the national development plan.
