FOREIGN nationals living in Zambia have been assured that the Zambia Police Service is committed to the protection of their lives and property.

The assurance comes after complaints by some foreign nationals over Chishimba Kambwili’s alleged xenophobic statement made against Chinese nationals recently.

It is believed that the embattled Roan PF MP is advocating a systematic violence against Chinese nationals working in Zambia particularly those operating in mining industry on the Copperbelt.

But police spokesperson, Esther Katongo told the Daily Nation that it was unlawful for any citizen in Zambia to issue any statement that was likely to put the life of the affected party in danger.

“Section 70 of the Penal Code criminalises any utterance, publication of any writing expressing or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt for any person or group of persons wholly or mainly because of his or their race, tribe, place of origin or colour,” explained Ms Katongo.

Ms Katongo however urged the affected citizens to report the matter to the Police commissioners.

“Let the affected report to the police and make a formal complaint on the statement that has caused fear in them,” said Ms Katongo.
