Manyinga Council approves over K37 million budget

Manyinga Town council has unveiled a K37,115,503 council budget for 2022.
Finance committee chairperson Gregory Kapenda presented the budget during a special council meeting.
Mr Kapenda said 80 percent of budget will be financed through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) while the remaining balance will be financed through locally generated revenue as well as the Local Government Equalisation Fund.
“These include levies, licences, permits as well as support from central government through the local government equalisation fund,” said Mr Kapenda.
He said the local authority has committed to transform the district by opening up serviced industrial and residential areas to increase economic activities in the district.
He said council intends to construct a Truck Parking Bay aimed at facilitating smooth flow of traffic in the District and keeping the district clean.
“Further, the council intends to construct a modern Bus Station with good sanitation facilities including Baggage storage facilities, Courier services, Self-service shops so that travellers can have access to,” he said.
Council Chairperson Henry Sakuwaha emphasized the need to focus the budget on capital projects that have potential to change the lives of Manyinga residents.
“And more importantly, we should align our Budget to the 8NDP and the new dawn government vision of transforming districts into modern cities,” he said.
