Stillmatic to represent Zambia in the 2017 Int’l Cartoon Contest

DAILY Nation Newspaper cartoonist Stillmatic has been entered into the “Freedom of Expression” International Cartoon Contest & Exhibition 2017 to be held in Norway as the only cartoonist representing Zambia.

The contest which will see the participation of 515 cartoonists from 82 countries across the world who have since submitted a total of 1545 cartoons.

Stillmatic, born Simon Nsaka is a self-taught editorial cartoonist inspired by South African cartoonist ‘Zapiro’, currently working for the Daily Nation newspaper.

“South Africa’s Zapiro, a cartoonist I have never even met, inspired me a lot until I discovered my own cartooning technique,” he said.

The 32-year-old cartoonist was awarded ‘best editorial cartoonist’ by Misa Zambia last year.

Stillmatic has also participated in the 4th international cartoon gathering in Egypt, the 13th international cartoon contest in Syria and the 21st fax for peace 2017 in Italy.

Meanwhile, the “Freedom of Expression” International Cartoon Contest & Exhibition 2017 will be monitored by an international jury of eight members.

These will make a selection of the submitted cartoons which are to be exhibited in the Norwegian Cartoonist Gallery and also published on their website.

Selected cartoons would be exhibited in Norway, Slovakia, India, and could be exhibited in some other countries.

“Cartoons can only be used for promotion purposes which will include printing, exhibition, websites, newspapers, posters and invitation cards. We will publish the results of the contest on 31st May, 2017,” the confirmation letter reads in part.
