Zambian netball team jets into Uganda to seek glory

THE Zambia senior netball team yesterday arrived in Uganda ahead of the Africa Cup tournament which starts tomorrow.

Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) general secretary Pritchard Ngoma confirmed from Kampala the arrival of the team.

“Team arrived safely this morning and is accommodated at Alcom Hotel. The morale is high and just waiting for start of the tournament,” he said.

He called on the Zambians to support the team as this would motivate the Queens to perform well.

Meanwhile, Ugandan New Version reports that the hosts are confident of conquering Africa.

She Cranes captain Peace Proscovia is confident that Uganda will win the Africa Netball Championship at Lugogo.

The towering shooter currently playing professional netball at Loughborough Lightning, arrived on Sunday and immediately joined the rest of the squad on Monday.

“The spirits are high among the players,” she said after training at Lugogo.

Proscovia won the best shooters award at the England Netball Super league this season with a tally of 812 goals in 18 matches and was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP).

“All the shooters are good but they just need to keep practicing in these remaining days in a bid to perfect their aiming skills,” she said.

National coach Vincent Kiwanuka will be able to gauge his team’s fitness levels during today’s friendly match against The Queens from Malawi.

Malawi arrived in Uganda on Sunday.

Malawi is ranked 6th in the world and second in Africa behind South Africa, who will not be taking part at the championship.
