IT is a highest level of hypocrisy for the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to claim that he was defending Constitutional Court judges from President Lungu when he recently labeled them as corrupt, the New Congress Party (NCP) has said.

NCP President Peter Chanda said it was disappointing and saddening that Mr. Hichilema, who has been denouncing the Judiciary, could claim to defend the institution now.

Pastor Chanda was reacting to Mr. Hichilema’s remarks that there was need for Zambians to rise and defend the judges against President Lungu’s attacks.

Speaking at a press briefing at his residence in Lusaka on Friday, the UPND president said he noted with dismay remarks made by President Lungu while in Solwezi where he threatened the judges.

Mr. Hichilema said the court was run by a group of professionals and called on Zambians to stop President Lungu from abrogating the Republican Constitution and breaking the law.

But Pastor Chanda said the UPND leader should just shut up because he could not the Con-court judges.

Pastor Charge labeled Mr. Hichilema a ‘hypocritical man’ who would only say or do things that served his personal ego against anything done by President Lungu.

He recalled how Mr. Hichilema recently said the Judiciary needed to be disbanded as it had been invaded by corrupt elements.

“HH is a hypocrite, and he shout just shut up because he does not respect the Zambian Judiciary himself. He recently said that the Judiciary needed to be disbanded as it had been invaded by corrupt elements and what has suddenly changed for him to say the court was run by a group of professionals?” he asked.

“Zambians can’t be fooled by the desperation of HH that he was defending Judges of the Constitutional Court from President Lungu when he has less respect for them,” he said.

Pastor Chanda said Mr Hichilema’s behaviour was a clear indication that could be entrusted with the Presidency.

Pastor Chanda, however, said President Lungu merely advised the judges and not warned them.
