RUFUNSA will soon be connected to the national power grid upon the completion of a Zesco sub-station which is under construction, Rufunsa District Council chairperson Barthromew Kalambalala has said.

Mr Kalambalala said the people of Rufunsa do not have hydro power electricity and it was becoming expensive for them to continue using diesel.

He said the district, being viable for farming and livestock keeping, farmers were being discouraged to venture into opening butcheries for fear that their meat could go bad.

Mr Kalambalala said the project which is expected to be completed by July next year, will see the district with a lot of economic activities being opened up.

He said the power will be supplied to the entire district which had been in the dark from time memorial, despite being only about 165 kilometres from the capital city, Lusaka.

Mr Kalambalala said lack of electricity in the area has a negative impact on business and people were limited in accessing social amenities and also contributed to high levels of unemployment.

“Many thanks go to President Edgar Lungu for pushing for the project to commence so that Rufunsa is connected to the national grid and this will change lives of people because they will be able to set up their own businesses such as hair saloons, barber shops as well as butcheries,.” said Mr Kalambalala.

And Mr Kalambalala has also appealed to investors to start investing in Rufunsa as the district had plenty of land and other resources for exploitation.
