POLICE in Lusaka have warned and cautioned embattled Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili over fraud allegations.

And Lusaka police commissioner Nelson Phiri who confirmed the development said the police recorded a warn and caution statement from Mr Kambwili and that investigations were still going on.

Mr Phiri said Mr Kambwili will again be summoned once investigations were done.

This follows a complaint by Economic Equity Party (EEP) leader Chilufya Tayali who reported Mr Kambwili to police for fraudulent activities.

Mr Tayali reported Mr Kambwili for alleged fraudulent registration of a company using ghost names to obtain government contracts.

Mr Kambwili who chickened out last Friday, arrived at Lusaka Police Division Headquarters around 08:30 accompanied by his lawyers.

He was quickly taken to room 73, 3rd floor for interrogations amid tight security.

There was high presence of police officers at Lusaka Division Headquarters who did not allow anyone to enter the premises apart from Mr Kambwili’s lawyers.

After the interrogations which took almost two hours, one of Mr Kambwili’s lawyers, Christopher Mundia told the Daily Nation that the police had administered a warn and caution statement from Mr Kambwili.

Mr Mundia disclosed that the police were interrogating his client on three charges which included fraud, uttering false documents and giving false information to public officers.

“Essentially, they are talking about three charges one of fraud, and the other one is uttering false documents and the third is giving false information to a public officer.

“So they have administered a warn and caution statement, but since they are still investigating, they will invite us at an appropriate date so that they can take further steps,” Mr Mundia said.

And speaking from his moving vehicle, Mr Kambwili said he had not committed any of the offences he was facing.

“Don’t even waste your time asking me if I did any of those alleged charges because I can’t do that. These are just intimidations by the state,” Mr Kambwili said.

He charged that the allegations were orchestrated by State House using Mr Tayali.
