THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has extended the deadline for application for Tax Payers Identification Numbers (TPIN) to March 31, 2018 to enable more eligible people particularly for those in peri-urban and rural areas comply.

The application for the TPIN, which is mandatory for all bank account holders, was scheduled to close on December 31, 2017.

ZRA commissioner general, Kingsley Chanda, said after considering the current challenges in registering for TPINs, they resolved to extend the deadline to allow more eligible people to comply.

Mr. Chanda said the aim was to ensure that all people with bank accounts registered as required by law.

He explained that the ZRA devised measures that would make it possible for many people to acquire their TPINs through user friendly and timely processes.

He said in a statement released in Lusaka by ZRA corporate communications officer, Mildred Chama, that during the extension period, it expected many people to register and acquire TPINs.

“To expedite the process, people with internet access are encouraged to register online using the fast track process instead of going to any ZRA offices. The online registration which can also be done using a smart phone can be accessed on the ZRA website.

“I also wish to appeal to people to utilise the extension period and register to acquire TPIN as it is a requirement by law and therefore people are expected to comply,” Mr Chanda said.

He said ZRA was committed to serving the public efficiently and would continue to provide innovative mechanisms that would continue to ease access to all services.

Mr Chanda emphasised that ZRA would not be snooping into people’s bank accounts nor would it be deducting any amount from money deposited into people’s bank accounts.

“A TPIN is a unique identification that is useful to anyone currently dealing or intends to deal with ZRA in future,” he said.
