UTH records 15 Christmas babies

 THE University Teaching Hospital (UTH) recorded 15 Christmas babies born between midnight and 09:00 hours yesterday, according to Public Relations Manager Natalie Mashikolo

Ms. Mashikolo said that of the total babies, seven babies are boys with the first baby born being born at 01.25 hours

She said all the 15 babies were in  good health  and doing fine.

Meanwhile First lady Esther Lungu urged Zambians to reflect on their lives during this festive season.

Ms Lungu said this when she was presenting baby hampers to the same babies born on Christmas Day at UTH.

She said Christmas was a day to remember the achievements made this year and further plan for the coming year.

And Mrs Lungu has urged Zambians to desist from engaging in activities that may endanger their lives and country’s peace during this festive season.

“I want to remind Zambians  this is  the time to behave decently, let us stick to good morals that our Lord Christ demonstrated while he was on earth , let us be ambassadors of peace  during this period,”she said.

Ms. Lungu has further called parents to ensure they created safe environment for their children.

She said parents should ensure that they took responsibility of their children rather than abandoning them in the streets.

“Most children have abandoned their homes to go to the streets because some parents have failed to create safe environment for  them, parents should ensure that take responsibility of their children rather than leaving to it to other people such relatives to do such,” she said

She also emphasized the need to tackle the issue of alcohol in the communities.

She said that alcohol abuse was major cause of gender –based violence (GBV) and the reason Zambia had more children on the streets.
