POLICE in Manyinga district have intercepted a truck loaded with 188 bags of D-compound worth K16,920.

Both North Western province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka and Manyinga district commissioner Queen Manela confirmed the incidence in separate interviews.

Mr Daka said the truck Scania model registration number ATB 2861 being driven by Kelvin mutemba of Solwezi was intercepted near Mufumbwe district with fertiliser reported to have been stolen from the Manyinga deport after a tip off from members of the public.

“So, a combination of Mufumbwe and Manyinga police officers quickly moved in and intercepted the truck at Kashima East around 23:30 hours in Mufumbwe Boma,” he said.

He said the driver who was in company of two others Febian Simbeye aged 37 of Zambia compound and Kennedy Nswana ,44, a depot supervisor have since been arrested.

Meanwhile, Ms Manela has described the situation as retrogressive as Government was working hard to ensure that local farmers are empowered with farming inputs on time.

“It is very unfortunate that unscrupulous people entrusted in the distribution of these inputs were conniving with transporters to resale the inputs to enrich themselves.

”, she said.

She has since urged police officers to investigate the case thoroughly and bring to book all those involved.
