BY NATION REPORTER

HEALTH Minister Sylvia Masebo says government will reform the National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure more money is generated for procurement of drugs in Hospitals.

Ms Masebo said one of the means to achieve universe health access to quality healthcare is to have a sustainable health financing.

She said she was happy that the new dawn government will be reforming the National Health Insurance scheme to make it more efficient and effective to respond to the needs of the people.

Ms Masebo said there is need to improve drug availability in health facilities, adding that currently health facilities face deep dilapidated infrastructure and inadequate equipment.

She said health facilities will be equipped with appropriate medical and non-medical equipment and for that reason, the government has in the 2022 national budget allocated K196 Million for procurement of hospital equipment and infrastructure development.

Ms Masebo also said the Ministry of Health will in the 2020 budget procure Ambulances, utility vehicles, motorcycles and water transport in order to strengthen referral system.

She said the new dawn government recognizes that the health of the citizens is important as there is no country that can achieve its economic agenda unless its people are health and productive.

She also said the government will ensure adequate supply of drugs to health facilities and equipment to health facilities.
