Kitwe flood victims cry out

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA
THE flood victims that are accommodated at Buchi hall in Kitwe have cried to Government to quickly relocate them as they fear to contract the Covid-19.
Over 500 residents from Ipusukilo, Mwaiseni, Musonda and parts of Bulangililo were left homeless after a heavy downpour and have been temporarily accommodated at Buchi hall waiting to be relocated elsewhere.
The victims interviewed by the Daily Nation said that they feared that the outbreak of covid-19 would not spare them if they continued living there.
“We are scared that the virus will not spare us as you can see that social distancing is a challenge here. We have got children and this place is getting more scary by the day,” one victim Doris Bwalya said.
Ms Bwalya said that they had been waiting for Government to give them an update of when they would be relocated but that no information had been forthcoming.
She said that the transit centre was no longer safe especially that the cases were slowly increasing on the Copperbelt.
Another victim, Mutale Mwango, called on the Ministry of Health to regularly send health personnel to the centre to conduct some tests on them.
She complained that they had not been seeing health personnel to conduct screening and testing.
