Retiree shoots daughter, grandson and commits suicide

A 61-YEAR-OLD retired ZAFFICO officer of Cha Cha Cha Township in Kitwe has committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth after shooting at his daughter, aged 26 and 13-year-old grandson.

The incident was reported at Mindolo Police Station in Kitwe by Edwich Chibuye of the same address yesterday that her grandfather Isaac Gondwe shot his daughter Esnart Gondwe who sustained a penetrative bullet wound on the left side of the chest.

He also shot his grandson, Kondwani Lungu who sustained a bullet wound besides the left side of the mouth thereafter shot himself dead after sustaining a penetrative bullet wounds in the mouth and exited in the skull. 

This incident happened when the deceased who retired in 2016 from ZAFFICO and was not on talking terms with his wife, Sara Gondwe, aged 57 told her he was not feeling well. The wife told him to look for some pain killers

“He then left the bedroom and went to the rooms were other members of the family sleep and separated the two victims from the other family members and started accusing the two of always being against him. It’s from there that he shot them. He the tried to shoot the wife but the gun jammed. He went and locked himself in the bedroom where he also shot himself” Ms Zulu said.

Ms Zulu said Police visited the crime scene and found him in a pool of blood on his bed and a Glock Pistol was found besides the body in the bedroom with two empty cartridges which were picked in the spare bedroom where the two victims were locked and shot.

“Two more cartridges were picked in the passage within the house. The condition of the female victim is stable while the juvenile is critical

“The body of the deceased was deposited to Kitwe Teaching Hospital Mortuary while the pistol with empty cartridges are kept at the police station as part of evidence,” she said.
