FLAVIA Musakanya, the wife of Zambia’s first post-independence government Secretary to the Cabinet and head of the civil service, Valentine Musakanya has died.

According to a statement issued by the family, Ms Musakanya died at UTH on Sunday after a short illness.

“The Musakanya family would like to inform all relatives and friends that their beloved mother, grandmother, Mrs Flavia Musonda Musakanya (“FMM”) went to be with The Lord on Sunday 5th July 2020 at The University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka after a short illness,” the statement read.

The family said due to the current Covid – 19 situation prevailing in the country, there would be no funeral gathering.

“Only close relatives will be invited in person to attend the funeral mass, however, a live broadcast of the mass will be streamed online,” the family said.

Valentine Musakanya is better known as one of the country’s intellectual and business elite convicted for the 1980 coup attempt against the one-party state of Kenneth Kaunda’s United National Independence Party (UNIP) government but was subsequently acquitted.
