THE Lusaka City Council has dispatched bailiffs to help it recover over K18 million in commercial property rates and K17, 514, 724.15 from billboards.

Council assistant public relations manager Brenda Katongola said the authority was owed in excess of K35 million in unpaid commercial property rates and billboards from  March 30

Ms. Katongola said the Council has since dispatched bailiffs to help it recover over K18 million in commercial property rates and K17, 514, 724.15 from billboards.

And Town Clerk, Alex Mwansa has warned illegal billboard owners of punitive action and charged that the Council would apart from cutting down unauthorised billboards, not renew unpaid for billboards for the second quarter.

Mr Mwansa has strongly cautioned offenders that they risked  prosecution through the courts of law and that Demand notices for bills for the second quarter have since been dispatched.

“We are encouraging our debtors to come forward and pay what they owe the council. We are open on Saturdays up to 13:00 hours. Clients can either use the point of sale service or the Direct Debit and Credit Clearing (DDACC) with ZANACO, Stanbic, Natsave or UBA or they can deposit directly in their property rate accounts where applicable,” said Mr Mwansa.
