A teacher in Zambezi district has been killed over K5, which he reportedly owed a villager in the same district, North-western province Commissioner of Police Elias Chushi has confirmed.
Mr Chushi identified the deceased as Jones Kakinda, 45, who was a teacher at Nyamona Primary School.
The incident happened on Friday around 20:00 hours at Nyamona teachers’ compound where Mr Kakinda was assaulted and pushed to the ground.
Mr Chushi said his officers have since arrested the alleged assailant, whom he identified as Kamfunti Sangonga of Chala village in Chitokoloki area.
“Police in Zambezi received a report of murder from Sylvester Nyambaza, a teacher at Zambezi Day Secondary School, who reported on behalf of his brother Jones Kakinda aged 45, also a teacher at Nyamona Primary School, who was assaulted by Kanfunti Sangonga aged 22,” he said.
He explained that the victim who owed the assailant a K5 was pushed to the ground after an altercation and became unconscious.
“Even though, he was rushed to Chitokoloki Mission Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” he said.
He said the suspect has been arrested and charged with murder and would appear in court soon.
