CARELESS utterances by UPND that people who will vote for the Patriotic Front are fools are an insult on Zambians and the democracy the country was committed to, Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people has said.
He was reacting to remarks by UPND secretary-general Steven Katuka that only a fool will vote for the PF.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni said such talk was proof that the opposition was always advocating to plunge the country into pandemonium.
He said Mr Katuka was off line by calling Zambians ‘fools’ because he knew that millions would vote for the ruling party in an election.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni said it was absurd to call people ‘fools’ for merely exercising their right to vote.
He observed that the opposition party was inciting violence by calling supporters of the ruling party names.
“Munthu wamene anatomola ati vipuba ndye vamene vingavotele PF ndye chipuba maningi ndaba munthu wanzelu sanga tomole yaja mau elo ndye wandeo. (The person who mentioned that only fools will vote for PF is actually the person who is foolish because a normal person cannot say that and he likes conflicts),” Paramount Chief Mpezeni said.
He said that the opposition was sending a bad signal to the people, saying that people would not take them seriously.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni advised political parties to desist from politics of insults but instead preach peace because Zambia was a peaceful country.
Commenting on the Economist intelligence Unit prediction that the 2021 general elections would be characterised by economic and political turmoil with elections expected to be neither free nor fair, Mr Katuka said the EIU report was not analysed professionally.
Mr Katuka stated that there was no way the PF could win the August 12 tripartite elections.
