ONE of Indian’s biggest seed processing companies, Prasad seeds, says it is ready to set up a multi-million dollar processing facility in Zambia.

Prasad seeds managing director Karumanchi Prasad said the project was meant to cater for Zambia’s need and that of its eight neighboring countries and beyond.

Mr Prasad said his company was aggressive as it generates its own electricity for production and operational needs.

Mr Prasad said this when Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga toured the seed processing plant in Telangana State, South India.

Mr Prasad said Zambia enjoyed political stability and a strong legal framework that helps protect investments.

And Ms Kapijimpanga said the mission was happy with Prasad for its interest in Zambia, adding that the country stood to benefit from Prasad Seeds Company because it had facilities for adding value to fruits and vegetables through the cold storage.

Ms Kapijimpanga reaffirmed Government’s policy to make Zambia food sufficient stating that investments such as those by Prasad could help realise such a vision.

“I am happy to note that the company also provides seeds to small scale farmers who are mostly women and buys off the crop for seed production through the out-grower scheme.”
