…collect levies from bus drivers forcing them to park their buses as several hundreds of passengers stranded

By NATION REPORTER

SEVERAL hundreds of passengers were yesterday stranded in Kitwe after bus drives parked their buses in protest against cadres who have been harassing and extorting money from them in the name of the ruling party.

The bus drivers at the Kitwe Town Centre bus station from which residents and commuters various towns on the Copperbelt get their transport were caught in the melee of confrontation between the bus drives and the cadres who have been collecting money under the guise of being members of the party in government.

A video that went viral yesterday showed that several hundreds of passengers were stranded as the cadres could not allow the bus to load without paying their illegal levies to the cadres.

The cadres have continued to cause havoc across the country despite repeated warnings from President Hakainde Hichilema that those committing crimes in the name of the ruling party shall be on their own.
