Ms Totiwe Tembo Muchemwa claims their 10-year-long marriage has irretrievably broken down and cannot continue to live with an abusive partner.

In a divorce petition filed in the Lusaka High Court, Ms Tembo, a customer service representative at Zesco said she had endured physical, verbal and mental abuse from Mr  Muchemwa.

She said her husband has been threatening to kill her, stating that he would later commit suicide as he had nothing to lose.

“The respondent’s behaviour worsened by virtue of which the petitioner was left with no option but to leave the matrimonial home around midmonth of May, 2022 and vowed not to return as the respondent threatened to kill her,” she said.

Ms Tembo has pleaded with the High Court to dissolve the marriage and grant her custody of their two children.

She further wants the maintenance order to be granted for the benefit of the children.
