Isanka Yaba Shitata, a men’s club of Kabwe says it is determined to fight gender based violence (GBV) which is mostly perpetrated by men.
Coordinator, Godwin Mwaba said the club would ensure that men refrain from various forms of GBV in the district through sensitisation.
Speaking when Bwacha Member of Parliament, Sydney Mushanga donated eight bicycles to the club for mobility, Mr Mwaba said most GBV cases, including defilement that are reported were committed by men but that this could change if men worked together in fighting the vice.
“As a men’s club we want to sensitise each other on the dangers of GBV and fight it in our homes and communities because most of these cases like killing of a spouse and defiling a child are done by men,” said Mr Mwaba.
He said the club also aimed at coming up with income generating activities to sustain their families, community and the country at large.
Mr Mwaba commended Mr Mushanga for the donation saying it would go a long way in expanding the club not only in Bwacha constituency but the whole district.
And Mr Mushanga urged the club to work hard and achieve its objectives so that it could serve as a pilot group in the country, being the first initiative done by a group of men.
Mr Mulenga has pledged to support the club.
Mr Mushanga also pledged to donate a block making machine, 10 pockets of cement and pile of sand to the group to start making blocks for sale as start-up capital.
