THE Horizon Educational Trust and Rainbow Harmony Institute has described First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda as one of the selfless leaders whose contribution to national development remains unmatched.

Speaking when the institute paid a courtesy call on Dr. Kaunda last week, institute chairperson Ambassador Leslie Mbula said Zambia would not have been where it is today without the contribution of Dr. Kaunda politically and economically.

Ambassador Mbula, who led a team comprising members of the trust Goksal Cavdaro, Izzet Ugur, Yusuf Dos, and Salih Gulhan, said the institute was humbled by Dr. Kaunda’s selfless service he has continued to render to the country long after leaving political power.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Mbula noted that there was need to improve teaching mathematics, science, and technology in Zambian schools as the subjects were crucial to the development of the country.

He said in order to supplement government’s efforts in improving standards in the education sector by emphasising quality service to the learner especially in the areas of mathematics, science, and technology, the institute had developed programmes to help the learner grasp the concepts easily by not only offering sponsorship to pupils at its institute, but also coming up with mathematics competition for schools to improve comprehension of the subject.

He said apart from providing quality education to Zambia and training opportunities in Turkey for pupils who excelled from its school in Zambia, the institute has also facilitated trade between the countries by enhancing trade between Zambia and Turkey though the formation of the Zambia-Turkish Business Association (ZATBA).

And Dr. Kaunda thanked the institute for finding time to visit him at his residence and thanked the delegation for seeing it fit to open a school that promoted excellence and opened its doors to the people of Zambia since 2011.

He said Zambia and Turkey enjoyed a cordial relationship as evidenced by international engagements in various sectors between the two countries, adding that Zambia was grateful to development brought about by the investors from Turkey.
