NYAWA Chiefdom in Kazungula has been cut off from the rest of the district and partly from the entire province.

This follows the washing away of Sianankanga Bridge which connects the chiefdom to Kazungula and Zimba districts.

Kazungula District Town Council secretary, Given Muleya and Nyawa Central Ward Councillor, Elias Siamibila, have confirmed the development to the Daily Nation in Livingstone.

The duo disclosed in separate interviews that the bridge was washed away on Wednesday following the heavy downpour which the area has been experiencing in recent days.

Mr. Siamibila said that the same bridge has been in a deplorable state for sometime now.

“As a councillor I have been pleading with the Road Development Agency since 2013 to work on it but nothing has come forth. As we speak right now my people are stranded in Zimba, they can’t go back to Nyawa,” he said.

Mr. Siamibila said the bridge was important to the people of Nyawa chiefdom as it linked the area to the rest of Kazungula district which was also utilised by transporters when delivering inputs to farmers.

He appealed to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing to quickly work on the bridge.
