THE Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) in North Western Province has recorded about 160 cases of unfair trading and business practices.
CCPC provincial investigations officer James Chalungumana revealed that out of the targeted 160 cases which were recorded, 144 were resolved.
He said the commission is hoping to resolve the remaining 36 cases before the end of the year.
“As a commission we have made strides in addressing some of the unfair practices between traders and consumers. And this year alone, we have recorded beyond what we targeted for,” he said.
He disclosed that 30 percent of the cases were recorded outside Solwezi district, a situation which he said was an indication that people have come to know the operations of the commission in all the 10 districts in the province.
“Another exiting initiative is that the commission has appointed council personnel in all the councils in the province to help in the dissemination of information,” he said.
He also commended the media for the role they were playing in informing the public on issues related to consumer protection.
“We have a very cordial relationship with the media and I hope that this will continue even next year,” he said.
