FORMER Post Newspapers (in liquidation) owner Fred M’membe who is at large, has appointed his daughter, Akende M’membe, as his personal attorney to execute all legal processes on his behalf.

This is contained in a Power of Attorney filed in the Lusaka High Court by Mr M’membe on 10th February 2017 and submitted to court during an inter-parte hearing before High Court justice Sunday Nkonde last Friday.

This is in the continued hearing of the winding up process of the Post Newspaper (in liquidation) in which five former employees of the newspaper sued for money owed to them.

“And I hereby undertake to ratify everything which my attorney under the power in that behalf contained do or purport to do in virtue of this power of attorney,” he submitted.

But Mr M’membe, who has applied to join the Post in liquidation case as an interested party, has since argued through his lawyer that he be allowed to do so in absentia.Ms M’membe argued that by virtue of her appointment, she acts on behalf of her father as the intended party in the matter.

“That on 21st February, 2017, as the attorney in fact of Mr M’membe, I did sign the affidavit in support of the notice of intension to raise a preliminary issue,” she said.
