Witchdoctor arrested for shooting sister

POLICE in Lusaka have arrested controversial witchdoctor Chilufya Chileya, popularly known as ‘Dr Kalonga Kanono’ for allegedly shooting his older sister in the arm.

Zambia Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed yesterday that Chileya, 39, of Kanyama Site and Service, was picked up on Sunday around 23:00 hours after shooting Josephine Chilufya, 53 at her home.

“We don’t know the circumstances that led to the shooting but according to the information we got from the victim, Dr Kanono has been threatening his relatives that he will ‘clear’ them all each time they differ,” Ms Katongo said.

She said Chileya followed his sister to her home in the notorious Chibolya compound where he shot her using a pistol.

“We recovered a pistol and five empty cartridges from the scene and the victim suffered a gun wound on the upper left hand. He is not yet charged but we are likely to charge him with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm contrary to section 224 (a) (b) of the Penal Code,

“Depending on the findings of our investigations, we are likely to slap more charges on him,” said Ms Katongo.

In December 2015, hundreds of Kanyama residents ran riot for two days after Chileya allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl.
