CHRIS ‘GAZZA’ TEMBO TREKS TO ESWATINI

By BENEDICT TEMBO

Former Zanaco and Lusaka Dynamos assistant coach Chris ‘Gazza’ Tembo has rejoined Eswatini First Division side Malanti Chiefs.

Chiefs, based in Piggs Peak in the north of Eswatini, were relegated last season.  They were in the premier league for 11 seasons.

Club proprietor Dumsani Gumede was compelled to recall ‘Gazza’ to propel the team back to top flight football.

“I have been working for Malanti for long this could be the fourth stint. On most occasions (my mission) is to rescue the team from relegation.  So the last time we differed over pay and I decided to leave and the team was relegated,” ‘Gazza’ said from Piggs Peak on Thursday.  ‘Gazza’ said the big issue is that when the team was in Super League, he was registered as an assistant because he don’t have a CAF A license.

“They had to pay a figurehead coach part of the money so they claimed,” he said.

Coach Raymond Dlamini who oversaw the team’s demotion, has been sacked.  Until his return to Eswatini, the 54-year-old gaffer was coaching third tier side, Riverplate in Chikankata District.
