CHIPATA MAN NABBED OVER K4, 000 COUNTERFEIT NOTES

A 43-YEAR-OLD man of Chipata’s Kaloko Compound has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for being in possession of K4, 000 counterfeit notes. DEC public relations officer, Mathias Kamanga has identified the suspect as Hedges Katongo. Mr Kamanga said Katongo has been charged with being in possession of counterfeit notes amounting to K4, 000 in K100 notes.

Mr Kamanga said in a statement yesterday that the suspect was arrested in Mshawa Village in Chipangali. He said the suspect has been released on police bond and would appear in court soon. Meanwhile, Mr Kamanga said the DEC has arrested Chipanga Mapeki, aged 25 of Kaoma for trafficking in 30.4 kilograms dry loose cannabis and cultivating 10.3 kilograms of fresh cannabis plants.

He was arrested on April 8 in Ngenge, Mr Kamanga also said, the DEC arrested Stephen Sinkamba, aged 28 of Chiwempala in Chingola, for trafficking in 23.8 kilograms of cannabis that was concealed in a blue plastic bag. The suspect was arrested at Willies shopping complex in Chililabombwe on April 6. He also said that in a separate incident the DEC arrested three people in Central Province for being in possession of explosives on public transport.

 Mr Kamanga said the suspects have been charged with possession of offensive weapons and materials contrary to section 85 of the penal code act chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia and illegal purchase and transportation of explosives contrary to section 601 of the explosives act chapter 115 of the laws of Zambia.
