AGRICULTURAL OFFICERS’SLOW WORK IRKS CHIEF

By Irvin Muyumbwa

Chieftainess Mwenda has expressed concern that agricultural extension officers in her area are exhibiting a poor and slow work culture for unknown reasons.

Chieftainess Mwenda said the officers are no longer as hard-working as they used to be despite the area needing their services to carry out duties among them vaccination of animals.

Following a request she made to government last year for regular vaccination of livestock, Chieftainess Mwenda in an interview said that she has not been seeing officers conducting activities in the area.

The traditional leader said this is despite the rampant outbreaks of livestock diseases and as a result, farmers are resorting to buying their own vaccines for the animals which are dying.

She has since called for government support in the area towards this cause.

Last year, Chieftainess Mwenda urged former Livestock and Fisheries Minister Proffessor Nkandu Luo during her visit to Southern Province to ensure officers regularly carry out vaccination exercises of livestock in the area which is prone to disease outbreaks.
