THE entire Lusaka’s Munali and Kanyama constituency committee and ward officials from the opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) have ditched their party for ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

Among the defectors were FDD Munali constituency chairperson Martin Mambo and his counterparty Kanyama constituency chairlady Judith Mwale.

Mr Mambo led 350 former Munali defectors while Ms Mwale led 320 FDD members from the same party to join the ruling PF. PF secretary general Davies Mwila said the 670 FDD members from Lusaka’s Munali and Kanyama constituencies have ditched their party for PF because of the ruling party’s good policies.

Mr Mwila said this yesterday when he together with his deputy, Mumbi Phiri and other PF officials received the defectors led by their former constituency leaders at the PF secretariat in Lusaka.

“The boat is not full and everyone is welcome, so embrace these new members,” Mr Mwila told PF members.

The PF CEO said the ruling party was still popular as evidenced by the number of people joining it because of its developmental agenda of transforming the nation.

Mr Mwila further took time to explain that contrary to assertions by the opposition, his party was not campaigning but merely receiving defectors who were willingly joining PF.

Meanwhile, speaking on  behalf of defectors, former FDD Munali constituency chairperson Martin Mambo said he and other members decided to ditch FDD for because they wanted to be involved in the service delivery of the country by a progressive party.

Mr Mambo said he was ready to work with the PF to foster development as the party had shown that it did not want to leave anyone behind in terms of development.

And speaking at the same occasion, PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri urged women in the party to take leading role in politics because some men were hypocrites and not trustworthy.
