NINE people have been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for allegedly trafficking in over 22 kilograms of cannabis and being in possession of counterfeit notes.
DEC public relations officer Mathias Kamanga said that nine people were arrested in separate incidents across the country for trafficking in cannabis contrary to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 35 of 2021.
Mr Kamanga said in a statement that the commission in Central Province arrested 35 year old Hendricks Mwape of Kampekete in Chibombo for trafficking in 10.79 Kilograms of cannabis. He was arrested after he was found with cannabis that was hidden under a sofa in the house.
He said the two females of Kasokota in Mkushi, 39 year old Grace Musonda Chibale and 33 year old Martha Musonda Chibale were also arrested and jointly charged for trafficking in one Kilogram of loose cannabis that was concealed in two clear plastics and four balls in a khaki paper.
Mr Kamanga said 25 year old Mathews Chirwa, of Chimtyulu Compound in Lundazi, Eastern Province was also charged for trafficking in 3.3 Kilograms of cannabis, near the Old Airstrip area after he was found with the cannabis that was concealed in a black backpack.
Mr Kamanga further said the Commission in Muchinga Province arrested Jonathan Inambao, 26 of Chibile area for trafficking in 1.3 Kilograms of loose cannabis seed.
In a related incident, Mr Kamanga said 41 year old Baron Miselo Mwansa, also of Chibile area was arrested at Musonda Farms for trafficking in 1.3 Kilograms of cannabis seeds.
He said the Commission in North-Western Province arrested and jointly charged 19 year old Chansongo Chilufya, and 21 year old Collins Kapamba, both of Kyawama Compound in Solwezi for trafficking in 3.9 Kilograms of loose cannabis.
