Protect tourists from Covid-19, plead Siavonga residents

By OLIVER SAMBOKO
RESIDENTS in the tourist resort town of Siavonga have called on Government and other stakeholders to strictly enforce the health regulations to protect locals and visiting tourists from contracting Covid-19
According to a source at the local hospital, the high number of Covid-19 cases and deaths in the tiny resort town was partly because members of the Zion Sect were shunning taking Covid tests and treatment.
Another source at the local authority said that the number of burial permit requests have increased in the past month.
The source also said some families had been burying their deceased relatives without the knowledge of the local authority.
Some residents blamed the high number of cases and deaths on lack of enforcement of the health guidelines by Government. Mr Raphael Tembo, a resident, said the current wave has not spared the people in the area due to many factors including the high influx of people from Zimbabwe where the cases of Covid-19 are more prevalent.
