By ANDREW MUKOMA

DEFENCE Permanent Secretary Felix Phiri says the ministry has the capacity and machinery to take part in the development of the country.

Dr Phiri said the defence force has the capacity to take part in the infrastructure development of the country.

He was speaking in an interview with journalists in Livingstone after inspecting the ultra-modern market and the International Bus Terminus.

Dr Phiri said that Government was utilising the Ministry of Defence because the country needed to move forward and at a fast rate in terms of development.

“In fact, this is the whole idea that the government is going to utilise the Ministry of Defence and its services because as a country we want to move at a fast rate in terms of development. Therefore, we are building capacity and through that capacity built in, we are acquiring equipment,” Dr Phiri said.

Meanwhile, Dr Phiri expressed happiness with works undertaken by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) towards the completion of the Intercity Bus Terminus and the ultra-modern market in tourist capital.

“This is encouraging and I would like to commend the commanders and also the ZNS Commandant for this wonderful infrastructure,” he added.

“The Livingstone International Bus Terminus is complete and all the works have been done. It is ready for commissioning. It is a wonderful piece of infrastructure and I am sure the people of Livingstone and Zambia in particular will be very happy in utilising this facility,” he said
